The Leadership Guymon class recently returned from their trip to visit the Oklahoma State Capitol. Members learned about the legislative process and even watched during some of the proceedings.
The tour of the capitol was conducted by Paul Matthews who is also a Guymon High School Alumni.
Ronnie Malone from the Guymon Chamber of Commerce said, "During their tour of the capitol, the class was recognized by the House of Representatives and the Senate. They got to see them do some voting and to see how it all actually works which was really neat."
During dinner the class met with with Lt. Gov. Jerry Askins, Rep. Gus Blackwell and Sen. Bryce Marlatt who discussed what they have been working on recently in Congress and fielded questions from the class.
They also met with Janet Nance the Director of Consultant Services in Governor Henry's office. Malone said, "She's a good person to call and get information if you have some issues or questions with something and you don't know where to find the answer. You can call and they will lead you in the right direction. She's a good contact to have."
Malone said, "I think being there and seeing how it works, being able to ask your legislators and get some answers right there was really good for the class. Very hands on and we learned a lot. As a Leadership Alumni, I go every year and I always learn something new each time I visit the Capitol."
